Can You Use AI To Plan Your Wedding?
AI is creeping into all areas of our lives, so it was only a matter of time before couples started wondering whether they could use it to plan their weddings. While I accept that it has its uses, I’m a firm believer that AI absolutely can’t replace a wedding planner, and these 6 reasons are just the tip of the celebratory iceberg.
6 reasons you can’t use AI to plan your wedding (properly):
Whenever we consider outsourcing something as personal as a wedding to AI, I think we have to keep something in mind to ground our expectations: AI has never planned or attended a wedding.
It’s never cried over trying on wedding dresses with a best friend, narrowly avoided an argument about whether a long-lost uncle should be on the guest list, or deliberated over ‘how pink is too pink’ for bouquet flowers.
Even if you’re a big fan of AI in other areas of your life, you simply can’t rely on it to plan your wedding properly – here’s why:
1. Details matter when planning a wedding, and AI often gets them wrong

Your favourite LLM bots like Claude and ChatGPT get their information by skimming various web pages they think might be relevant, and pulling it all together. The trouble is, it doesn’t always pull from the right places, and definitely doesn’t fact-check or make sure the information is up to date. Because of the confident tone of the answers, you’d never know it was getting things wrong.
A client of mine recently used an AI to do a quick check of how many bedrooms a particular venue they were considering had. The answer it gave didn’t sound quite right to me so I did things the old fashioned way, cross checking my notes with the venue’s own brochures, and even looking back through my email trails with the venue. Yes, it was more time consuming, but it did confirm that the answer from the AI was completely wrong.
The data it was pulling was outdated, not taking into account a recent refurbishment that had changed the number of available bedrooms.
Unlike AI, a wedding planner is always going to ensure you have the correct information, even if that means triple checking it in a long winded way!
2. AI doesn’t understand the complexities of design, logistics and practical execution of ideas

The only way to fully grasp all the little quirks, operational nuances and day-to-day operation of the wedding industry is to be in it. Years of wedding planning experience is the key to taking your big, bold ideas, and turning them into a beautiful reality, whereas AI is often misleading about what’s possible.
A friend recently told me she’d used AI to help design her wedding tablescape. It dutifully helped her pull together a mood board which looked gorgeous, but didn’t give any information on where any of the items were from or the logistics of hiring them.
For example, the pretty pink glassware it had chosen was actually available from a supplier in the US (but the wedding was in the UK). The cutlery and charger plates were from two different hire companies, that actually only let you hire complete tablescapes from them rather than mix and match items. A statement linen had been chosen for the top table, which sounds like a wonderful idea except for the fact that there are minimum orders with linen companies so you can’t just hire one…
So while an AI-generated moodboard might be a nice visual starting point, it’s not grounded in reality and what’s actually achievable, setting you up for failure. This is before we even get started on the fact that AI is technologically incapable of producing original ideas, so everything it shows you is ‘borrowed’ from someone else’s wedding.
A wedding planner with experience can help you dream up a design that is totally and completely yours, and the reality of which will match the moodboards – and often even exceed expectations.

3. AI supplier recommendations don’t have a basis in personal relationships
Sure, LLMs might be able to pull together generic lists of suppliers for you to contact, but wedding planners refine their trusted lists over years. Not only does a good planner match you to suppliers that suit your budget, style and personality, they will also go above and beyond to recommend people they know work together as a team on your wedding day.
Little details make a big difference. For example, let’s say you’re a couple who is originally from the Netherlands but now live in the UK, I might know the perfect photographer who coincidentally has the same backstory. Small, non essential things like this all come together to raise the energy of your wedding day across every element, allowing you to feel more comfortable and enjoy the experience that bit more.

This short notice wedding in London (above) was planned in just 9 days – something that’s only achievable by using hard-earned connections and human relationships.
Things like this are impossible to find through AI supplier searches, and you might not even know you’re looking for them. Your planner’s role in supplier sourcing is to go beyond the basics, truly understanding you and what you want and need, to bring together a team that will deliver beyond your wildest dreams.

4. Problem-solving in real time can’t be replaced by AI
Your wedding planner has vast connections and people skills that are essential for keeping your experience on track when things go wrong – and things do go wrong, because we’re working on a live, ever-evolving event that holds huge significance and involves a lot of moving parts.
Imagine that, the week before your wedding, all the plates you’d hired get smashed at the previous weekend’s event. AI is not going to source an alternative that still fits with your wedding design, liaise about the paperwork and deal with the contractual details, all during the days you should just be relaxing, preparing and getting excited.
It also sometimes happens that you’ll fall in love with a specific photographer, for example, but they’re coming in just a couple of hundred pounds over your budget. While I don’t advocate for negotiating pricing (and I’m not the wedding planner who will promise you discounts), I do truly believe that a supplier is more likely to be flexible with a planner who will bring them repeat business than with a couple directly.
Your wedding planner might be able to get your photographer to nudge down their price within your budget, or at least add in an extra roll of 35mm film or hour of coverage, all because of that pre-existing relationship. This is certainly something AI can’t help with.
5. Timelines, schedules, and on-the-day details need people
On your wedding day, Claude won’t be there to make sure your hair and makeup is on schedule, Chat GPT won’t straighten all your chairs, and an AI summary can’t look out for your special great grandma and her accessibility needs at your wedding venue. Your wedding planner has been on the entire journey with you, and so knows exactly what’s important to you.
The key to your day running perfectly for you and your guests, and to you being totally present and enjoying the moment, is having the right person overseeing everything from your high-level timeline to the tiny but significant details.
Let’s not even get started on how bad AIs are at putting together realistic wedding day timelines…!

6. You can’t outsource something so emotionally charged to an AI
A wedding day is emotional and hopefully truly heartfelt, centered around precious moments with your loved ones – it’s the best excuse in the world to have everybody you love in one place, surrounded by joy. The whole planning process should be carried out with a deep understanding of this, a personal touch, something that can never be replicated by a robot that has never shed a happy tear or shared an excited hug.
Planning with a real person who cares is going to be so much more rewarding, and result in a more personalised wedding that feels as good as it looks.
At the end of the day AI has its uses for administrative tasks, but wedding planning is about so much more than that. It certainly can’t cross all the important t’s and dot all the crucial i’s to make your celebration extra special, and there are some things that will always be reserved for real humans.
